Windows 7 Rollup (KB3125574) is Almost Awesome !!!

Microsoft announced the release of a roll-up update that will apply all security and non-security updates before April 2016 for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2.  Can this be possible that one update will install YEARS of updates?  This make to much sense so I decided to test it out.

I configured a virtual system and installed Windows 7 SP1 from the DVD.

Once the install was completed I checked for Windows updates.  I had 225 important and 10 optional Windows 7 updates.

If installing this rollup update instead of  installing over 200 updates will work this will be AWESOME!!!  Here goes.

First, you need to install "April 2015 servicing stack update" (KB3020369) if you don't already have it installed. This will only take a minute or two to install. No reboot is needed.

Next, you need to download the rollup update from the Microsoft Update Catalog website.   The Rollup update is only available through the Microsoft Update Catalog website.  Click here to download. The update catalog website works best in Internet Explorer.

Once you have the Rollup Update download to your local system start the install.  This will take awhile to install. Once the installation is completed you will need to reboot.

When the system completed the reboot, I scanned for available updates again.  Now I only have 54 Important and 7 Optional Updates for Windows 7.

The Rollup updated didn't install all security and non-security updates before April 2016 as advertised but it did install most of  the updates.  I guess it better than installing all 225 updates.
